Belotero is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable filler, similar to Restylane and Juvederm that temporarily adds volume to the skin to give it a smoother, softer appearance. This particular filler product was approved by the FDA in 2011 and is used to target wrinkles in the nasolabial folds such as smile lines or forehead wrinkles. Belotero is very versatile. Therefore, Dr. Stephenson uses it for Atlanta patients that have both beginning wrinkles, as well as deeper creases. Because it is produced with hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body, and is a hydrator by nature, Belotero promotes skin hydration for naturally glowing result.

"Wish I Would Have Done It (Breast Reduction) Sooner! - After years of chronic back pain and chest pain, my family doctor finally referred me to a plastic surgeon, Dr. Earl Stephenson, for a breast reduction. The pros about the surgery is that I had immediate relief from my back and chest pain. I have gained confidence in how I look as well. The cons is that one of my nipples was almost lost. Dr. Stephenson was able to keep the tissue alive and to..."- A. / RealSelf / Apr 24, 2017

The best candidates for a Belotero treatment are those who have shallow/light to moderate wrinkle creases, but an otherwise healthy skin tone. Patients who are trying to avoid surgery and who have wrinkles around the mouth and lips, as well as under the eyes may try Belotero before another filler. Belotero can last up to 12 months, which is nice for patients who desire a treatment program that does not require as many touch-ups.
What to Expect
Belotero is treatment that can be completed in about 30 minutes, right inside our plastic surgery office. A local anesthetic or numbing cream is usually applied first to minimize discomfort during the injection session. The amount of medication and injection locations varies depending on the severity of wrinkles and the location patterns. Patients who have positive results usually repeat this process biannually since this last about six months. The entire process is repeated every 6 to 12 months as the body naturally absorbs the formulation.
Since this is a noninvasive treatment, patients will be able to go back to their normal routine shortly after the injection. Some swelling and redness may be present, but these usually subside after a few hours. Strenuous activities must be avoided for at least 1 day. The results are evident immediately, and the skin will appear smooth with a rejuvenated glow.
The average price per syringe of Belotero is about $600. It is important to note that some patients may only require a single syringe of Belotero, while others, depending on the severity of their skin condition, may need several.
