A brow lift is a common cosmetic surgery that addresses the natural aging process of the forehead and eyebrows. It focuses on correcting droopy upper eyelids that cause patients to look tired, sad or angry. This is accomplished by lifting the eyebrow by repositioning the forehead skin to improve the appearance of low set eyebrows. Additionally, this may improve the appearance of the upper eyelid. A forehead lift or brow lift is intended to give a more youthful and rested appearance to the forehead and upper eyelids. Atlanta plastic surgeon, Dr. Earl Stephenson, offers several techniques for brow lift surgery depending on the patient’s condition and aesthetic goals.

The best candidates for those seeking brow lift surgery, include men and/or women who have:
- Low set eyebrows that produce a “tired” or “frowning” appearance
- Sagging eyelid that is caused by a droopy brow
- Forehead wrinkles that appear near the brow
- Overall good health; non-smokers
What to Expect
During the initial consultation, Dr. Stephenson will evaluate the overall health of the skin, which will include skin quality and looseness. He will also evaluate the folds and wrinkles of the forehead and hairline, as well as the position of the inner, middle and outer portions of the eyebrows and the upper eyelids. This evaluation will help him to determine if a brow lift is the best procedure, and eliminate if an eyelid lift is needed instead. During a brow lift, Dr. Stephenson will use one of several possible surgical techniques. Some common incision approaches include along the natural upper eyelid crease or the brow’s hairline. A slightly more invasive approach is a coronal incision, which runs from ear to ear underneath the patient’s hair. Dr. Stephenson uses the endoscopic brow lift most times, which is the least invasive approach.
Brow Lift Recovery
Swelling and bruising are expected on the forehead and eyes after brow lift surgery, although this will vary between patients. This swelling subsides within the first 1-2 weeks. The forehead may have some decreased sensation that will improve over time. Most patients can resume modest activity in 7-10 days, with a complete recovery in about 3-4 weeks.?
Brow lift surgery, on average, costs between $4,000 to $7,000. Although it is considered cosmetic in nature, in some cases where vision is affected because of sagging skin, insurance coverage may be a consideration. This is not guaranteed and varies by surgical case.
